What is line dance? What do you understand by line dance?

Line dance is a dance danced to various rhythms, in fact not only to country music, as you might think. Today Line dance is also danced to other popular music or disco sounds. We, the Colorado-Country-Dancers, exclusively dance to country music.

Typical is the kind of dance. Line dance is not a couple dance. Everybody dances by himself in a formation (in line) an already fixed order of dancing steps which will always be retaken. Everybody is looking in the same direction and there are also contra lines or dances within a circle. Line dance is not comparable with classic dance or e.g. Square Dance.

Besides that there are 2 additional couple dances:

  • Couple Dance:
Equals line dance, the only difference lies in the fact that it is a couple dance and danced together as a dancing couple. The dances are rehearsed, this means that the order of dancing steps, the figures and the whole dance course is specified.
  • Couple Dance:
These are couple dances (like waltz, Polka, cha-cha, east-coast, west-coast, two-step) where no specified order of dancing steps, figures and course, like a free section (ice-skating), is given.
